Karen White, Singer Songwriter & the Quirky One

featuring Quintessential Quirk

Hi there.  My name is Karen (White) and, yes, they call me the Quirky One.  For an explanation as to why,
check out my "bio page".

This website got its name from my shows, Quintessential Quirk; you’ll also find an explanation of how THEY got their name in my "bio page" and the "shows page" will tell you about the past events and will also let you know when we plan another.

Me in a nutshell?  I write a few songs, I sing a lot of covers, I play rhythm guitar and occasionally keyboard; OK, lots of people do those things.  What makes me different?  My choice of songs, that’s what.  My repertoire includes music from performers as diverse as Paul Kelly, Melanie, Billy Connolly, Kirsty MacColl, The Beautiful South and Richard O’Brien, via the enduring poetry of Leonard Cohen and the cutting satire of Tom Lehrer ...  a pot pourri of international artists, and with a couple of songs written by very dear personal friends thrown in for good measure.

When I sing this great range of songs I “live” each one as I deliver it – and clear diction has always been important to me so you, the audience, can understand the song’s story as we go, you get to experience the emotions along with me, whether happy or sad; I think this is SO important – what’s the point of a singer singing a great song if the audience don’t know what the storyline is??.

When I’m up on stage I’m there to have fun, and to bring the audience along with me, whether it’s for corporate gigs, private functions, at an open mic/jam night, as part of a theatre show; I’m happy to perform as a solo artist or with others, whether just one or two individuals or with a band.  In case they’re needed I have a professional quality PA system and good quality stage lighting – and my own sound man (I’m married to him).  I love all the songs I sing, the standards and the different, ‘quirky’ ones, and I hugely enjoy performing them and entertaining an audience – with me you get a thoroughly professional attitude which makes for a reliable entertainer.
